Recovery blasphemy right? How dare I challenge an entire clinical industry! Who am I to say this. Just hear me out.
The 28-day Hazelden Model or Minnesota Model
Most treatment centers are not owned by people in recovery. They do not know what to teach. They claim evidence based, but what evidence do they have that what they are doing is working?
“Individualized Treatment Programs” for each patient. What a crock of shit. This is their way of saying we don’t follow a model or have any consistency in our program. We play it by ear. It’s a cop-out. Now, im not saying that recovery isn’t an individual program. We all follow our own paths. Hell, that is one of my main points when im working with others. But, there should be a base. A general curriculum. Most treatment centers say “We are 12 step based” as their curriculum and thats great if they do. But, most centers don’t even get you through the 12 steps. They get you to step 5 which isnt even half way…
“Evidence based” Let me see your evidence and success rate. Anybody can make this claim. I (Nic) may not have a perfect setup, but at least im not claiming that it’s evidence based.
